Have a Holly, Jolly, Low-Carb Holiday!

Turkey

With Thanksgiving and Christmas right around the corner, a lot of us low carb newbies are getting a little nervous. It’s one thing to eat low carb in the comfort of our own home or in a restaurant where we can always just get a salad…but it’s completely different during the holidays. And, if your family is anything like mine, they will likely bombard you with questions and concerns when they realize you’re not eating much. Especially if you’re anything like me and used to eat 3 plates heaping with all kinds of food! *sigh*

So, how do we enjoy the holidays without partaking in all that carb-loaded food??? Well, if you’re having Thanksgiving at your house, this is definitely something you can control! When I first started scouring the internet for yummy low carb meals, I came across a whole blog post revolving around Thanksgiving dinner.

Check it out here: http://healthylivinghowto.com/1/post/2012/11/healthy-thanksgiving-2012-recipe-round-up.html

Obviously, the biggest part of Thanksgiving is the turkey. As long as it is prepared right, it will be fine for us to eat as much as we want, right? Then we’ve got mashed potatoes. Ohhhh, mashed potatoes. I love the suggestion in the link I posted above about tossing a couple of yellow potatoes in with your mashed cauliflower to make it fluffy and more potato tasting. I will definitely be implementing that for my Thanksgiving. She also provides us with some yummy bread alternatives and a homemade cranberry sauce. Yum! But my favorite was the green bean casserole topped with…BACON! If you follow my facebook page, you know how much I loooooove bacon! 😉

If you’re going elsewhere for the holidays, take some dishes with you! You know there will be at least a couple things there you can eat, but if you take a couple of your own low carb dishes, you’re ensuring that you will have plenty to eat while you’re there.

Ultimately, friends, you need to know that even if you cheat a little this holiday season (which I probably will!), you can always jump right back on the low carb train! We’ll save a seat for you. 🙂
